ROCKPORT — If one is going to be professional, perhaps being among the best is the goal.
Rockport’s Bruce Sunstein was recently selected as a top intellectual property strategist and practitioner by the IAM professional trade organization.
“It’s a nice honor,” he said. “By profession, I’m a patent lawyer. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some really brilliant inventors.
“The patent system is really important. I get to see that time and time again. Without a patent system in place, nobody has a chance to get off the ground. With a patent system, the inventor and the company, has a chance to make a go of it.”
Sunstein said he has often seen private enterprises, protected by patents, find eventual success.
“We have inventors who turn their inventions into money,” he said.
Intellectual property (IP) is considered any work that gives the creator the right to prevent others from using or copying the property without their permission. IP can include patents, trademarks copyrights and trade secrets.
Sunstein is a partner and founder of the firm Sunstein LLP. His recent recognition was chronicled in 2024 IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists.
