Meredith L. Ainbinder

Meredith is a partner at Sunstein and an active member of the firm’s IP litigation and copyright practice groups. She has extensive experience with intellectual property and complex business disputes, such as trademark and patent infringement, false advertising and other unfair competition claims, trade secrets, copyright violations and Internet rights. She counsels clients on intellectual property policies and guides them in developing agreements that maximize their rights and protect their business investments. Meredith has conducted litigation at all stages, from discovery through trial, post-trial and appeals practice. She is a trusted advisor to clients in fields including consumer products, financial services, medical devices, telecommunications, software development and publishing. Before attending law school, Meredith worked in the field of high-technology public relations and brings that industry perspective to bear on helping her clients achieve their business goals.

  • Represented leading musical instrument manufacturer in securing multi-million dollar victory in false advertising and commercial disparagement lawsuit in U.S. District Court.
  • Represented clients in high-stakes patent disputes in industries including telecommunications and security.
  • Represented technology clients in trial in Suffolk Superior Court, defeating 93A claims.
  • Represented clients in trademark and anti-cybersquatting lawsuits.
  • Advised clients regarding trade secrets and unfair competition.
  • Advised clients regarding copyright law issues.

Professional and Community Involvement

  • Meredith is active in a number of bar and community organizations. In March 2012, she was elected Vice President of Membership & Statewide Outreach of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts. She has been serving on the Board of Directors of the organization since 2009.
  • Meredith is also involved in the Boston Bar Association and Boston Bar Foundation. At the BBA, she currently co-chairs the Federal Practice and Procedure Committee. Previously, she served as the co-chair of the BBA’s successful Practical Skills Committee in its inaugural year and co-chair of the 2011 Casino Night fundraiser for the BBF. She is a Junior Fellow of the BBF’s Society of Fellows.
  • Other of Meredith’s legal and community affiliations include work on Boston College Law School alumni activities, membership in the Federal Bar Association and the American Bar Association, membership in Women Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology, IvyLife and the Ad Club.

Honors

  • Early in her career, Meredith was selected as one of nine outstanding young women attorneys in Massachusetts to participate in the Charter Class of the Women’s Leadership Initiative.
  • Meredith was named to the Rising Stars list in the practice area of intellectual property in 2007-2011 in Massachusetts, a list limited to 2.5% of the outstanding emerging lawyers in the state who are age 40 and under, or have been practicing 10 years or less. The attorneys featured in Rising Stars were selected by their peers in an extensive nomination and polling process conducted by the research team at Super Lawyers, a service of Thomson Reuters and seen in a special advertising section in Boston magazine.
